You will make more friends, and build deeper relationships from simply asking great personally-probing questions, listening to the answers and being sincerely interested in the other person’s story. Someone once did this to me at a party. Later I remarked to my wife how much I liked this person I was talking with, then I suddenly realized that he just kept asking me questions about ME. I loved him for it.

Networking is not about bragging. I prefer to be spontaneous and listen to what other people’s interests are and ask genuine questions so people feel they are heard not lectured or sold.

Networking does take time — whether it occurs in person or online. Keep in mind that networking is a process not an event. It should be continuous and cyclical. It takes time to develop relationships and establish enough trust for others to feel comfortable referring you. The goal is to learn and create a mutual attraction where you will ultimately be introduced to prospects and referral sources that are interested in learning more about you and your services.

I haven’t been a been able to harness the full power and potential of Facebook, so I appreciate your thoughts and direction. It seems that it’s very easy to get lost in the crowd, by not being personal enough. It takes time to build all those friends; and I believe that’s where I’m lacking.
